Sales tax on hamburgers, cheeseburgers and other sandwiches in Russia will double to 20% from October 1st. This was announced by the tax authority FNS. So far, the burgers have been taxed at 10% – a tax rate that applies to all baked goods with a short shelf life in Russia. However, starting in October, the popular fast food item will fall into the new tax category of “sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and similar goods” that the tax agency recently created.
