In January and February 2023, goods worth almost 33.7 billion US dollars were traded between Russia and China. Compared to the same period last year, this meant an increase of 25.9%, as the Russian news agency TASS reports with reference to Chinese customs data. China’s exports to Russia increased by 19.8% to more than $15 billion. Almost $18.7 billion worth of goods were imported into China from Russia, up 31.3% from January-February 2022. For all of last year, foreign trade turnover between Russia and China increased by 29.3% compared to 2021 and reached a record value of 190.3 billion dollars. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, more than half of this volume was settled in rubles or yuan. Russian customs now count China among Russia‘s most important trading partners.
