German exports to Russia‘s neighboring countries have more than doubled since February 2022. From January to April 2023, goods worth 2.9 billion euros were exported from Germany to the CIS, including Kazakhstan, but excluding Russia. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 1.5 billion euros or 106.4% are more than in the same period of 2021. At the same time, German exports to Russia collapsed by 58.3%. “Exports to the Russian Federation fell from 8.4 billion euros in the first four months of 2021 to 3.5 billion euros in the first four months of 2023,” the statement said. “The increase in exports to the CIS countries thus accounted for less than a third of the drop in exports to Russia.”
